Philip Messmann & Sophia Roe's Summer House

In a classic thatched house in the Danish countryside, photographer Philip Messmann and stylist Sophia Roe have created a simple and aesthetic summer residence with an eye for materials and timeless details. The house, which exudes peace and balance, reflects the couple's keen eye for composition, form, and texture.

The interior is composed of vintage finds, raw timber, ceramics and a small selection of carefully chosen design objects. Together, these elements establish a relaxed and understated atmosphere. The palette is restrained, centred around muted tones of white, natural materials and metal, allowing each object to exist with clarity and intention, free from unnecessary distraction.

The kitchen is conceived as a traditional Danish framed kitchen, or ‘forrammekøkken’, rooted in historic cabinetmaking traditions, defined by its visible front frame and inset doors. A ceramic sink is set beneath the window, paired with a Christiansborg fixture in polished nickel mounted on standpipes — a functional detail drawn from more heavy-duty kitchens and here adapted for residential use.
