The need for a strong and maintenance-free faucet capable of withstanding heavy use led Otto Sparre-Petersen, an engineer and chief mechanic at Gentofte County Hospital, to develop the iconic SP faucet in 1935, featuring its famous stirrup-style top piece. With its classic design, organic aesthetic, and near-indestructible quality, it has since become known as both the "industrial faucet" and the "Rolls-Royce of faucets." For this reason, it has been used worldwide for decades, from hospitals and embassies to private homes.
