SP Elbow

The SP Elbow was designed in 1937 by Otto Sparre-Petersen, an engineer and chief mechanic at Gentofte County Hospital, who wanted to develop a faucet with a focus on hygiene and durability.

When Rigshospitalet (Copenhagen University Hospital) developed its new 16-story central complex in 1965, 15,000 SP Elbow faucets were installed, many of which are still in use today. When the complex was completed in 1970, it stood as a significant expression of mid-century functionalism — best known for its rough stone aggregate facade.

The success of this extensive implementation led to the widespread adoption of the faucet in up to 70% of the Danish hospital sector, where many are still in operation to this day.
