The need for a strong, maintenance-free luminaire capable of withstanding heavy loads led engineer and chief mechanic at Gentofte County Hospital, Otto Sparre-Petersen, to develop the iconic SP luminaire with its famous stirrup-shaped top in 1935. With its classic design, organic forms, and almost indestructible quality, it has since become known as both the industrial luminaire and the ‘Rolls-Royce of luminaires.’ For the same reason, it has been used worldwide for decades, from hospitals and embassies to private homes.
